Wax Play Down Under :: Guest post by Erotic Romance Author JoAnne Kenrick
Please give a warm and over-friendly Word Ejaculation welcome to JoAnne Kenrick who is our guest poster today. JoAnne is a Welsh ex-pat living in North Carolina, she shares her home with her husband, two children and a lazy cat. When they aren’t demanding her attention, she can most likely be found watching a vampire movie, reading or baking up a British favorite in her N.C. kitchen

A candlelit room is romantic, right? Throw in a box of chocolates or flowers and a woman thinks she’s in heaven. Or how about floating, scented candles in a bubble bath pre-drawn for her when she gets home from work. I tell you what, you’d be in her good books for weeks…heck months…after that. But why should the fun stop there? Candles can offer more than soft light and sweet scents, as the characters in my newly released 80s rock romance set in Australia know only too well.
Sadie Fox, an entertainment manger, has a fetish for wax play…and the only man who’s been able to quench her kinky side is Ryker Conall.
Rock You Like A Hurricane – a sneak peak!
She’d only shared her fetish with two men. Ryker, and his rebound guy. Rebound guy did as he was told, and he played nicely. But with Ryker it was obvious he enjoyed giving her pleasure. And if she was honest with herself, she couldn’t wait to see that kind of sparkle in his eyes again. But there was just one problem.
“I don’t think those little tea light candles have much of a kick.”
His body looked kick-ass in the soft candlelight. Buff wouldn’t even begin to describe him. Thick, toned muscles, six-pack to die for, and tribal tattoos that wrapped from his back to his navel. She could just lick that navel. Drop candle wax in it and watch his muscles contract with the pain. She could just…
“Close your eyes. Let’s see if you say that in a minute.”
She did as ordered and waited for a treat. She wouldn’t feel much from those babies, some warmth maybe. The hard wax removal would hurt more. Those tea light candles were too cold to do any harm or give any real pleasure. A blop of candle wax landed on her belly, just below her belly button. As she expected, warm, nice. But not sexy. Another plop. Warmer still. And then another. It burned. But just for a second.
“Ohh.”
“Yeah, thought you’d like that.”
He let another dollop of wax pool on her. Four layers of warm wax piled on top of each other. Now it burned so good. The wax hardened as each layer fell, heavy, cracking, tightening over her skin. Bliss.
“Where did you learn that?”
“I’ve been playing. Sounds daft, but when we’re on the road, and I felt lonely, I waxed myself to remind me of you. It started with a few drops, but then it became an obsession. I tried different candles, experimented a little, and learned that layering hot wax gives it that extra kick.”
“Why would you do that?”
Oh, had Sadie given birth to a candle freak? Goose bumps covered her at that thought.
“I wanted to know why you got such a kick out of it.”
“And?”
“And?”
“Did it give you a kick?”
“Nope. It gave me heartache.”
His public image was so hard-ass, and Sadie wondered if she was the only lucky girl to have see his soft center. Hoped with her all her might, actually.
“Crikey, keep talking like that and I’ll come before we’ve even started.”
Plop. Warm wax dribbled down her hardened nipple. And then more. And more. It burned. Not so hot that it stung, but just the right amount of hot. Sexy hot. She squealed in delight, her nipples tingling with the heat. Then he covered the other nipple with melted wax. She wiggled her toes just so she could remind herself that she was alive and not in heaven.
He rubbed his hand up and down her nipples; callously, rough. Hardened wax ripped from her skin, the departure leaving a sting in its wake…Ohhh. A desire to see his pleasure-lit eyes pulled at her, and she opened her eyes.
“Naughty, I told you to keep your eyes shut.”
He smirked. It was wicked and promised her a sinful treat. Ryker blew out the candle. Dark again. He moved down the bed and parted her sex. Warm wax fell between her folds, hardening immediately.
My low down on wax play.
Disclaimer. These are some key notes from my own research. Please refer to The Toybag Guide to Hot Wax and Temperature Play
for full safety guidelines.
The type of candle depicts the heat/pain. Check all safety guidelines before trying wax play, and know your partner’s limits. As with all sensory play, safety is key. Setting boundaries and safe words before you begin is a must. And start slow if trying this for the first time. Perhaps you could take the time to test different candles on yourself to discover what you like, and where your pain threshold is. A good starting point might be to use soft, unscented uncolored heated jar candle wax, and drop from as far away from the back of your hand as you can reach. Always keep in mind that you are playing with dangerous materials that can, and will, burn you if not used correctly. If you are unsure about anything, there are some excellent guides available via most good bookstores.
Guideline of candle heat levels.
- Massage candles are the safest wax play, burning at varied levels depending on product.
- Soft candles in glass jars, or tea light candles, have mineral oil in them and generally burn at 120F
- Pillar candles are mostly paraffin and burn around 140F
- Taper burn hotter still, as they have more stearine in them. 160F
- And watch out for beeswax candles, they burn even hotter and are the preferred candle for hardcore wax play experts.
Tips.
- Increase the distance between yourself and the candle if you are using a hot burning wax. Alternatively, decrease the distance for a more intense sensation.
- Pooled wax will make the wax burn hotter.
- Hardened wax can be difficult to remove from areas with hair.
- Avoid wearing synthetic materials, non-fireproof clothing and nail polish for obvious reasons.
Notes to remember.
- Hot wax is dangerous, and can burn the skin.
- Careful not to splatter hot wax in the eyes
- Scented and colored candles burn around 10F degrees hotter, and you should that that into consideration before dropping on naked skin.
